To no surprise, a good portion of the buzz at the International Broadcasting Convention revolved around 4K transport technologies and UHD content delivery. Some companies are creating innovative products to enable 4K to work more harmoniously with existing systems. Others are sitting on the polar opposite side of the spectrum. These folks are claiming that the anticipated standard of the 4,000-across pixel cramming resolution is of lesser importance than some other alterations that can be made to the video. They suggest other features to be perfected, such as increasing frame rate, improving color and sound, or other performance enhancing technologies.

The whole area of ultra high definition television has only become muddied with the tolerance of miss-communication on the precise definition and specifications of UHD. Between the mix of consumers, content providers, and potential manufacturers, it’s not understood clearly how to move forward. No one wants to make a wrong move. To complicate things further, it’s worth noting the consumer move towards watching streamed video online, which could have a profound impact on the future of the ultra high definition and how or whether it should be approached. Consumer deficits in bandwidth result in a lack of speed to support higher resolution. Therefore, many consumers will be facing the expense of that in combination with the new television equipment, and thus, might opt for other options. That is the reason behind the argument by some that a higher dynamic range and improvement in color in opposition to expanding resolution to 4K.
